Machining

AVELION operates 14 turning-milling machines ranging from 3 to 5 axes, including:

  • 2 ultrasonic milling machines
  • 1 EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) machine

          Design and R&D

          AVELION’s R&D unit brings together deep expertise across all technologies involved in the design and manufacture of particle accelerators and RF components. From initial concept to validated design, our teams manage the full engineering process, translating product requirements into detailed specifications, calculations, and simulations.

          Each engineer and PhD within the R&D unit specializes in a dedicated field, enabling AVELION to deliver highly optimized, multidisciplinary solutions:

            • RadioFrequency and Thermal Calculations (COMSOL Multiphysics)
            • Beam dynamics simulations (RFTrack)
            • Particle/matter interactions simulations (MCNP, FISPACT)
            • Radiographic testing simulations and image reconstruction (aRTist, VGSTUDIO)
            • Ultra-high vacuum, design and processes rules

          Once the design phase is completed, the R&D unit ensures a seamless transfer of validated designs and high-level specifications to the industrialization and engineering department, guaranteeing continuity, reliability, and manufacturability.

          Industrialization and Engineering

          • Defines and manages manufacturing and operating procedures
          • Supports production through FAI, training, and process transfer
          • Serves as the technical interface with customers

          The Methods & Industrialization Department is responsible for defining and managing all manufacturing and operating procedures. It ensures that production processes are clearly established, controlled, and maintained throughout the industrial lifecycle.

          The department’s scope includes:

            • Development and management of control programs

            • Definition of machining and inspection operations

            • Operator training related to manufacturing processes

            • Management and validation of First Article Inspections (FAI)

            • Transfer of production activities and ongoing industrial support

          The team also serves as a key interface with customers, supporting technical discussions and ensuring alignment throughout the product’s industrial lifecycle.

Its capabilities span advanced multi-axis machining, brazing and heat treatment under controlled atmospheres, welding, clean-room assembly, precision cleaning, and surface treatments.           High-Technology Systems

          The Systems unit focuses on the assembly, integration, and testing of complete systems within AVELION’s own facilities, including testing operations conducted in a dedicated bunker at the main site.

          Two ranges of products are developed and produced:

          ORIATRON/SIRIATRON®: Fixed and modular linear accelerators designed for non-destructive testing (NDT) inspection and radiotherapy applications.

          iMiGiNE®: An automated radiotracer production solution including a cyclotron and a microfluidic synthesis module.

          Beyond system design and manufacturing, the team ensures long-term machine reliability through dedicated maintenance services and a customer support hotline, guaranteeing continuous and high-quality service.
